There are endless options when it comes to deflecting your home with art! To stay focused when styling my own home or my clients’, I source artwork using the 50/50 ratio: 50% of the art you bring in should be sentimental and 50% should be stylistic.
So, in a refined ranch home like ours, I have photos displayed of our family, places in the world that are special to us, and some photos of our animals. And those are combined with other artwork that is mostly ranch landscape art in moody, earthy colors, paired with some wall decor that is ranch-based, also, like an antique wagon wheel and a large patinaed copper piece.
Another example: in an organic modern home where a family loves to travel, I’d ask for some of their favorite vacay photos and print those in a pretty sepia color with dark wood frames of varying sizes. I’d source some large abstract, textural artwork in neutral tones. I’d pull in a big, beautiful mirror with a woven frame. And I’d use unique hanging vases with lots of greenery.
No matter how what style your home is, your walls are a huge opportunity to express sthat style and make your home your perfect happy place!
